Community-Oriented Prevention in the Holy Quran (Al-Qurʾān al-Karīm)

Abstract

Normativity, in its various coercive and committed forms, is among the prominent needs of any society, and without it, its planning and operationalization for achieving social goals would become difficult and perhaps impossible. The various mechanisms that are employed in society to achieve this purpose are called prevention. The problem of the present research is the analysis of this category in its community-oriented form, which entails committed and not coercive agency. In this article, an attempt has been made to examine the aforementioned problem in the light of the revelatory verses (Āyāt). This type of prevention is pursuable in various forms, and in this article, two dimensions of emotional bond and the health of social manifestations, which have a different role in normativity, are examined. In this research, the method of thematic exegesis (Tafsīr) and the technique of logical analysis have been utilized in the exegesis of the verses. The results demonstrated that the depth and expansion of emotional bonds among the members of society, which is considered the social mortar, prepares the psychological context for the empathetic acceptance of norms, and the health of social manifestations, through the elimination of the boundary and grandeur of norms in the mentality of the society and the public culture, affects human agency and obliges him for the acceptance of the rules and conventions (Iʿtibāriyyāt) of the society that have been formulated to facilitate social relations.
