Abstract

Social entrepreneurship, as an innovative approach for responding to the unresolved needs of society, breaks down the traditional boundaries among the public, private, and non-profit sectors and focuses on the creation of sustainable social value. The Imam Musa Sadr institutions in Lebanon have become one of the most successful examples of social entrepreneurship in the Islamic world. These institutions, which have operated under the guidance of Ms. Rabab Sadr for nearly sixty years, are considered an optimal case study for studying the leadership model of social entrepreneurs. The present research, with the aim of deeply and systematically exploring the lived experience of Rabab Sadr in managing the Imam Musa Sadr institutions in the city of Tyre, Lebanon, and designing her leadership model, seeks to answer this main question: what is the model of maternal leadership in social entrepreneurship based on the lived experience of Ms. Rabab Sadr? This research was conducted based on the Grounded Theory method and the Glaserian classic approach. The data of this research were collected through seventeen purposeful and in-depth interviews with managers, experts, and figures familiar with the institutions and the experience of Ms. Sadr. The open codes resulting from the complete coding of the interviews related to the aspects of the entrepreneur's personality were 150 concepts, which, after four rounds of review, resulted in seventeen tactical actions during the axial coding stage with the strategic family coding approach, and subsequently, as a result of selective coding, four strategies were obtained. The final model demonstrates that Rabab Sadr's leadership is a type of "integrated strategic action" and she is constantly "managing," "negotiating," and "maneuvering" at three levels: 1) the individual and organizational level through human capital management, 2) the social and political level through intelligent agency in the environment, and 3) the crisis and future level through the innovative management of issues. Based on this model, the social entrepreneur, relying on his/her powerful value heritage, employs a set of strategies to manage resources, exercise agency in complex environments, and guide institutions towards sustainability and the realization of the social mission. This maternal and entrepreneurial leadership of Rabab Sadr is a multi-layered process in which symbolic and personality capitals (Strategy 1) are employed strategically to create a foundation of legitimacy and influence. This foundation enables the successful implementation of other operational strategies including human resources management (Strategy 2), navigating the environment (Strategy 3), and leading in challenges and innovation (Strategy 4).
