Abstract

Giddens of the modern world is influenced by his definition of the concept of tradition, in this article, using fundamental methodology and critical approach; the concept of “Tradition” in Giddens's thought was examined.Studies have shown that the concept of tradition has both modern and religious meanings. The religious tradition originates from the Shari'a and has durability, stability and continuity over time. In cases where it accepts the change of time, it still benefits from eternal, esoteric and eternal faces. In addition, the word innovation is a concept that is in the opposite of tradition. However, in the modern definition, the tradition that opposes modernity is the social tradition, from which antiquity is inhaled and permanence, continuity, and holiness are a complication that is imposed on it at the insistence of the followers. Therefore, there is no fundamental contradiction between the concept of tradition in the religious sense and modernization in the sense of modernity and innovation, but modernization means Westernization, which leads to the cessation of the religious tradition and the identity of individuals and societies, deprives human beings of certainty, and grasps them to the uncertainty realms
