Employing an analytical-documentary method, the research scrutinizes the book’s structure and content regarding the relationship between religion and culture, with particular focus on their divergence or convergence. The book’s central thesis emphasizes globalization and secularization as key drivers of religion’s separation from culture. Roy posits that the convergence of religion and culture strengthens religion’s universal cultural dimensions, while their divergence—manifested in the separation of cultural symbols from religious ones—leads to “holy ignorance” (<em>jahl-e moqaddas</em>), increased religious conversion, and the proliferation of diverse religious movements. Despite presenting numerous case studies and attempting to justify them, the author errs in diagnosing and explaining the religion-culture relationship and its manifestations. His proposal for religion-culture convergence contradicts historical evidence, particularly in the case of Islam. Furthermore, Roy’s interpretation of Islamic fundamentalism presents an ambiguous, inadequate, and politically reductionist justification of contemporary Islam’s political identity. هدف پژوهش حاضر تحلیلی بر کتاب «جهل مقدس: زمان دین بدون فرهنگ» نوشته الیویه روی، و بیان نقاط قوت و ضعف آن است. این پژوهش با استفاده از روش تحلیلی- اسنادی، ساختار و محتوای این اثر را از منظر ارتباط دین و فرهنگ و واگرایی یا همگرایی این دو جریان مهم مورد واکاوی و نقد قرار داده است. ایده کلیدی این اثر، تاکید بر نقش جهانی شدن و سکولاریزاسیون به عنوان عوامل جدایی دین از فرهنگ است. خروجی همگرایی دین و فرهنگ، تقویت جنبه‌های عام فرهنگی دین است و خروجی واگرایی میان نشانه‌های فرهنگی و نشانه‌های دینی، ظهور جهل مقدس و افزایش نوکیشی و اشکال متعددی از جنبش‌های دینی است. نویسنده این اثر، علی‌رغم ذکر شواهد متعدد و تلاش برای توجیه آنها، در تشخیص و تبیین رابطه دین و فرهنگ و مصادیق آن، به خطا رفته و پیشنهاد همگرایی دین و فرهنگ را مطرح نموده که با شواهد و مستندات تاریخی از گذشته تاکنون، حداقل در مورد دین اسلام، در تناقض است. همچنین تفسیر نویسنده از بنیادگرایی اسلامی، تصویری مبهم و نارسا و متضمّن توجیهی نادرست از هویت سیاسی اسلام در دوران معاصر است. https://gnoe.bou.ac.ir/article_78067_30d634685e7a4c4a1ad0a3c97e7924f7.pdf
